Lost Mines of Southern California: Elsmere Oil Field Boiler
The Elsmere oil field is about 60 acres, and was once part of the Newhall oil field. It was probably first inspected when oil claims were being filed in nearby canyons, around 1865. The first well drilled in Elsmere Canyon was by the Pacific Coast Oil Company. Elsmere 1 through 4 were drilled between 1889 and 1891. Elsmere 5 through 20 were drilled between 1898 and 1900.
